Sâmbătă, 14 ianuarie, Geneza 11:27-12:20 – Chemarea și slăbiciunea lui Avram

Terah a fost a opta generație de urmași ai lui Sem, fiul mai mare al lui Noe. Terah a avut trei fii: pe Avram, Nahor și Haran. Noe, tatăl lui Sem, a murit cu doi ani înainte de nașterea lui Avram. Haran a murit și a rămas în urma sa fiul său, Lot, de care s-a îngrijit bunicul Terah.

După moartea lui Terah, de Lot s-a îngrijit unchiul său, Avram, care era căsătorit cu Sarai. Terah i-a luat pe Avram, Sarai și Lot îi împreună au plecat spre Canaan. Însă Terah a murit pe drum, în Haran, la vârsta de 205 ani.

Dumnezeu l-a chemat pe Avram, arătându-i-Se de șapte ori. I-a promis că îl va face un neam mare, îi va face un nume mare, îl va binecuvânta și îl va face o binecuvântare. Avram, Sarai și Lot au ajuns în Canaan și s-au oprit la stejarul lui More din Sihem.

După ce a construit un altar, Avram a plecat spre munte și și-a așezat cortul între Betel și Ai. Aici a construit un alt altar și s-a închinat lui Dumnezeu. Noe a construit un altar, Isaac a construit un altar, Iacov și Moise au construit câte două altare – iar Avram a fost campionul altarelor, construind patru altare.

Avram a trăit 75 de ani în Haran și 100 de ani în Canaan. La vârsta de 86 de ani, Avram l-a avut pe Ismael cu Agar, roaba soției sale, iar la vârsta de 100 de ani, Avram a primit de la Sara copilul promis de Dumnezeu, pe Isaac.

Deși Avram a avut o credință puternică, o viață sfântă, un angajament deplin, totuși, el nu a fost un om desăvârșit. Din cauza foametei, a plecat în Egipt și acolo a ales să mintă pe administratorii țării în legătură cu identitatea soției lui, spunându-le că este sora lui. Dumnezeu a intervenit și lucrurile s-au încheiat cu bine, așa cum se întâmplă întotdeauna când Dumnezeu repară ,,stricăciunile” făcute de caracterul nostru nedesăvârșit.

În dimineața aceasta vom mulțumi Domnului pentru că ne-a chemat și pe noi să ne apropiem de El și să-I slujim. Vom continua rugăciunea cerând de la Dumnezeu credință, încredere, ascultare, un duh pașnic și o dorință adâncă pentru închinare.

Saturday, January 14: Genesis 11:27 – 12:20 – Abraham’s calling and weakness

            Terah was the 8^th generation of descendants from Shem, the oldest son of Noah. Terah had three sons: Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Noah, Shem’s father, died two years before the birth of Abram. Haran died and his son, Lot, remained behind under the care of his grandfather Terah.

            After Terah’s death, Lot’s uncle Abram took over his care; Abram was married to Sarai. Terah took Abram, Sarai, and Lot and together they set out toward Canaan. However, Terah died on the journey, in Harran, at the age of 205.

            God called Abram, revealing Himself to him seven times. He promised Abram that He would make him a great nation, a great name, that He would bless him and make him a blessing. Abram, Sarai, and Lot reached Canaan and stopped at the great tree of Moreh at Shechem.

            After he built an altar, Abram went toward the mountains and pitched his tent between Bethel and Ai. There he built an altar and worshiped the Lord. Noah built an altar, Isaac built an altar, Jacob and Moses built two altars each – but Abram was the champion of altar building, with four altars built.

            Even though Abram had a strong faith, a holy life, and was fully committed, still, he was not a perfect man. Because of a famine, he went to Egypt and there he chose to lie to the country administration regarding his wife’s identity, telling them that she was his sister. God intervened and things ended well, just as things always do when God repairs the “damages” made by our imperfect character.

            This morning we will thank the Lord because He also has called us to draw close to Him and to serve Him. We will continue our prayer asking the Lord for faith, trust, obedience, a peaceful spirit and a deep desire to worship.
