Joi, 13 iulie 2023, Iosua 5:1-15 – Consacrarea israeliților

Vestea despre marile minuni făcute de Dumnezeu s-a răspândit cu repeziciune și canaaniții erau înspăimântați, moralul le era scăzut. Deși era un moment prielnic pentru Israel să-i atace, Dumnezeu a avut alte priorități. Consacrarea poporului trebuia să preceadă cucerirea țării:

1)    Înnoirea tăierii împrejur. Tăierea împrejur trebuia aplicată tinerei generații care nu fusese circumcisă în pustie. Circumcizia era semnul legământului cu Dumnezeu.

2)    Sărbătorirea Paștelor a fost posibilă doar după circumcizie (Exod 12:43-44, 48). Acesta fost cel de-al treilea Paște sărbătorit de popor. Primul a fost în noaptea eliberării din Egipt, iar al doilea a fost la Sinai, înainte să plece spre Canaan.

3)    Însușirea roadelor țării.

În această zi au mâncat din roadele țării și în ziua aceea mana a încetat să mai cadă din cer. Este înduioșător să observăm că Dumnezeu nu a oprit mana când poporul a disprețuit-o (Numeri 11:6), ci doar atunci când nu mai era nevoie de ea.

Iosua a ieșit din tabără, spre Ierihon, și a văzut un soldat cu sabia scoasă din teacă. Întrebându-l dacă este ,,dintre ai noștri sau dintre dușmani”, omul i-a răspuns: ,,…sunt căpetenia oștirii Domnului și acum am venit” (v. 14). Iosua s-a aruncat cu fața la pământ, s-a închinat și a zis: ,,Ce spune Domnul meu robului Său?” Căpetenia oștirii Domnului i-a spus: ,,scoate-ți încălțămintea din picioare, căci locul pe care stai este sfânt”.

Cu câtă reverență s-au închinat oamenii din Scriptură lui Dumnezeu! Cu câtă solemnitate! În vremea noastră există tendința banalizării prezenței lui Dumnezeu, a casei și a lucrurilor închinate lui Dumnezeu. Lucrurile care au însemnătate spirituală sunt privite cu obișnuință și ușurătate. Pierderea respectului și a adorării prezenței lui Dumnezeu mărturisesc despre o atitudine străină, iresponsabilă și concurentă.

Îi vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu la începutul acestei rugăciuni pentru că ne-a îngăduit cu viață până astăzi. Apoi Îl vom ruga să ne dea o minte înțeleaptă și o inimă închinătoare, adoratoare și proslăvitoare. În felul acesta vom purta în noi garanția reacției la prezența Domnului.

Thursday, July 13, 2023: Joshua 5:1-15 – The Consecration of the Israelites

The news of the great miracles performed by God spread rapidly, and the Canaanites were terrified, their morale low. Even though it was a suitable time for Israel to attack them, God had other priorities. The consecration of the people had to precede the conquest of the country:

1)    Renewal of circumcision. Circumcision needed to be applied to the younger generation who had not been circumcised in the wilderness. Circumcision was the sign of the covenant with God.

2)    The celebration of Passover was only possible after circumcision (Exodus 12:43-44, 48). This was the third Passover celebrated by the people. The first was on the night of liberation from Egypt, and the second was at Sinai, before they left for Canaan.

3)    Reaping the fruits of the land.

On this day they ate from the fruits of the land, the same day manna ceased to fall from the sky. It is important to observe that God did not stop the manna when the people despised it (Numbers 11:6), only when it was no longer needed.

Joshua left the camp, towards Jericho, and saw a soldier with his sword drawn from its sheath. Asking him if he was “one of ours or one of the enemies”, the man replied: “…I am the commander of the Lord’s army and now I have come” (v. 14). Joshua threw himself face down to the ground, worshiped, and said, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” The commander of the Lord’s army said, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy.”

How reverently the people in Scripture bowed down to God! With what solemnity! In our day, there is a tendency to trivialize God’s presence, His house, and the things dedicated to God. Things of spiritual significance are looked at with easy routine. The loss of respect and worship of God’s presence testifies to a foreign, irresponsible, and competitive attitude.

We will thank God at the beginning of our prayer today for allowing us to live until today. Then we will ask Him to give us a wise mind and a worshipful, adoring, and glorifying heart. In this way, we will carry within us the guarantee of reacting to the presence of the Lord.
