Datorita importanței lui Moise și Aaron, genealogia lui Levi începe cu seminția din care au făcut parte acești doi mari bărbați ai lui Dumnezeu. După enumerarea celor trei fii ai lui Levi, Gersom, Chehat și Merari, Scriptura se concentrează asupra urmașilor lui Chehat și asupra urmașilor lor prin Amram. Amram s-a căsătorit cu mătușa Iochebed și aceasta i-a născut pe Aaron, Moise și Maria.

Moise nu mai este menționat pentru că scopul a fost să prezinte linia genealogică a marilor preoți. Aaron a fost primul mare preot și întemeietorul liniei preoțești, urmașii lui fiind preoți în genealogiile lor.

Chehat, unul dintre fiii lui Levi, nu a fost doar strămoșul lui Aaron și Moise, ci și strămoșul lui Samuel. Deși Samuel nu a fost mare preot, el a făcut slujbe la Cortul Întâlnirii și a adus jertfe (Numeri 3:27-32; 1 Samuel 1:21; 2:11). Familia ghersomiților începe cu Asaf, cunoscut ca psalmist și cântăreț (Psalm 50; 73-83). Lista cântăreților merariți (6:47) începe cu Etan, numit și Iedutun (9:16). Pe lângă slujirea muzicienilor făcută de familiile levite (v. 34-38) este prezentată lucrarea de ispășire făcută de Aaron și fiii săi. Pentru ca seminției lui Levi nu i-a fost repartizat niciun teritoriu, i-au fost desemnate 48 de cetăți (Iosua 21:4).

Este impresionantă grija lui Dumnezeu pentru fiecare seminție, familie și persoană! Să-I mulțumim lui Dumnezeu cu multă recunoștință pentru că nu pierde din vedere pe nimeni. Apoi, ne vom ruga Domnului pentru pocăință și sfințire: ,,Nu vezi tu că bunătatea lui Dumnezeu te îndeamnă la pocăinţă?” (Romani 2:4)

Due to the importance of Moses and Aaron, the genealogy of Levi begins with the tribe from which these two great men of God came. After listing the three sons of Levi, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, the Scripture focuses on the descendants of Kohath and their descendants through Amram. Amram married his aunt Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron, Moses, and Miriam.

Moses is not mentioned further because the purpose was to present the genealogical line of the high priests. Aaron was the first high priest and the founder of the priestly line, and his descendants were priests in their genealogies.

Kohath, one of Levi's sons, was not only the ancestor of Aaron and Moses but also of Samuel. Although Samuel was not a high priest, he served at the Tent of Meeting and offered sacrifices (Numbers 3:27-32; 1 Samuel 1:21; 2:11). The family of the Gershonites begins with Asaph, known as a psalmist and singer (Psalm 50; 73-83). The list of the Merarite singers (6:47) begins with Ethan, also called Jeduthun (9:16). In addition to the service of the Levite musicians (v. 34-38), the atoning work done by Aaron and his sons is presented. Since no territory was allocated to the tribe of Levi, 48 cities were designated for them (Joshua 21:4).

God's care for each tribe, family, and person is impressive! Let us thank God with great gratitude for not overlooking anyone. Then, we will pray to the Lord for repentance and sanctification: “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?” (Romans 2:4)
