Duminică, 12 martie 2023, Exodul 18:1-27 – Ietro îl sfătuiește pe Moise

Capitolul acesta are trei secțiuni:

1)    Ietro îl vizitează pe Moise, aducându-i soția și cei doi fii. Cel mai probabil, Moise a vrut să-și protejeze familia, trimițând-o în Madian. El avea nevoie să rămână disponibil pentru marea lucrare la care îl chemase Dumnezeu.

2)    Ietro Îl laudă pe Dumnezeu, verbalizându-și credința în superioritatea Dumnezeului evreilor în raport cu toți ceilalți idoli.

3)    Ietro îl sfătuiește pe Moise să lucreze în echipă, delegând sacinile mai mărunte oamenilor de lângă el. Potrivit sfaturilor lui Ietro, Moise trebuia să învețe poporul legile lui Dumnezeu și calea pe care trebuia s-o urmeze. Considerând sfatul socrului său, Moise a implementat sistemul curților de judecată (v. 24-27).

Faptul că un om de calibrul lui Moise a avut nevoie să mai fie sfătuit de Ietro, după 40 de ani de instruire la curtea regală și încă 40 de ani în pustia Madianului, dovedește faptul că trebuie să slujim întotdeauna cu multă smerenie, înțelegând în permanență nevoia de a citi, de a învăța și de a accepta să fim sfătuiți și îndrumați.

Legea lui Gilbert spune că cea mai mare problemă în slujire este atunci când cineva îți spune ce trebuie să faci. Atunci când știm să facem un lucru ne simțim nerespectați dacă cineva își permite să ne sfătuiască. Moise și-a revoluționat slujirea acceptând sfatul lui Ietro.

În dimineața aceasta vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru părinții și mentorii noștri care ne-au ajutat și ne-au învățat cum să-L slujim pe Dumnezeu. În a doua parte a rugăciunii vom cere înțelepciune, călăuzire și putere să-i ajutăm pe oamenii din jurul nostru să-L cunoască și să-L urmeze pe Dumnezeu.

Sunday, March 12, 2023: Exodus 18:1-27 – Jethro Advises Moses

This chapter has three sections:

1)    Jethro visits Moses, bringing his wife and two sons. Most likely, Moses wanted to protect his family by sending them to Midian. He needed to remain available for the great work to which God had called him.

2)    Jethro praises God, verbalizing his faith in the superiority of the God of the Israelites over all other idols.

3)    Jethro advises Moses to work with a team, delegating smaller tasks to the people around him. According to Jethro’s advice, Moses needed to teach the people God’s laws and the path they should follow. Considering his father-in-law’s advice, Moses implemented the court system (v. 24-27).

The fact that someone of Moses’ caliber needed to be advised by Jethro, after 40 years of training at the royal court and another 40 years in the wilderness of Midian, proves that we must always serve with great humility, understanding the need to read, learn, and accept being advised and guided.

Gilbert’s Law says that the biggest problem in service is when someone tells you what to do. When we know how to do something, we feel disrespected if someone dares to advise us. Moses revolutionized his service by accepting Jethro’s advice.

This morning we will thank God for our parents and mentors who have helped us and taught us how to serve God. In the second part of the prayer, we will ask for wisdom, guidance, and strength to help the people around us know and follow God.
