Sâmbătă, 11 martie 2023, Exodul 17:1-16 – Împlinirea nevoilor poporului la Refidim

La Refidim poporul și-a manifestat din nou nemulțumirea, având intenția să-l omoare pe Moise cu pietre. Ca de obicei, lipsa de apă a fost împlinită de Dumnezeu. Toiagul care a lovit râul Nil acum a lovit stânca Horebului și poporul a băut apă și s-a săturat. Cea mai mare nevoie a acestor căutători de fericire nu era hrana, ci cunoașterea lui Dumnezeu, or contextul acesta era cel mai propice posibil.

La Refidim evreii au fost atacați de poporul Amalecit care încerca să-și protejeze de posibilii invadatori ținutul în care trăiau liniștiți. Amaleciții erau un popor nomad din deșert, la sud de Canaan (1 Samuel 15:7). Ei erau descendenți ai lui Esau prin Elifaz (Geneza 36:12). În această criză, Moise i-a încredințat lui Iosua – despre care aici se vorbește pentru prima dată – responsabilitatea militară de a proteja poporul.

Domnul să primească recunoștința și mulțumirea noastră pentru că, asemenea evreilor de atunci, Dumnezeu ne-a protejat de dușmani, de necredință și de potențiale pericole. Să cerem de la Dumnezeu puterea de a ne încrede în El și de a fi o mărturie în mijlocul unei generații postmoderniste.

Saturday, March 11, 2023: Exodus 17:1-16 – Meeting the Needs of the People at Rephidim

At Rephidim, the people once again expressed their dissatisfaction, intending to kill Moses with stones. As usual, the lack of water was fulfilled by God. The staff that struck the Nile River now struck the rock at Horeb, and the people drank water and were satisfied. The greatest need of these seekers of happiness was not food, but the knowledge of God, and this context was the most conducive possible.

At Rephidim, the Israelites were attacked by the people of Amalek, who were trying to protect the land they peacefully lived on from potential invaders. The Amalekites were a nomadic desert people, south of Canaan (1 Samuel 15:7). They were descendants of Esau through Eliphaz (Genesis 36:12). In this crisis, Moses entrusted Joshua – who is mentioned for the first time here – with the military responsibility of protecting the people.

Let us give thanks and gratitude to the Lord because, like the Israelites of that time, God has protected us from enemies, unbelief, and potential dangers. Let us ask God for the strength to trust in Him and be a witness amid a postmodern generation.
