Ne amintim de faptul că cele șase capitole, 46-51, conțin mesaje de judecată și pedeapsă pentru națiunile din jurul Israelului. Capitolul 48 prezintă mesajul mâniei lui Dumnezeu împotriva Moabului, o țară așezată la est de Marea Moartă.

Țara Moabului se trage din Moab, unul dintre cei doi fii ai lui Lot, Moab și Amon. Aceștia s-au născut dintr-o relație incestuoasă a lui Lot cu cele două fiice ale sale (Geneza 19:37-38).

Așa se explică relația dintre cele două țări vecine, Moab și Amon.

Moabiții au fost dușmani consacrați ai evreilor și au existat tot felul de lupte între cele două națiuni. Balac a fost regele Moabului care a încercat pe toate căile să blesteme și să distrugă Israelul.

Balaam, pe care Balac l-a plătit ca să-i blesteme pe evrei, a fost oprit de Dumnezeu (Numeri 22).

Există în acest capitol două versete care remarcă două riscuri pe care și le-au asumat moabiții atunci. Ele se constituie și astăzi în două mari ispite:

1.     Riscul de a-L sluji pe Dumnezeu cu nepăsare, neținând seama de toate detaliile cerute. Sacrificiile făcute pentru Dumnezeu nu ne îndreptățesc să slujim după mintea și dorințele noastre. “Blestemat să fie cel ce face cu nebăgare de seamă lucrarea Domnului, blestemat să fie cel ce își oprește sabia de la măcel!” (vers. 10)

2.     Riscul încrederii în casa de rugăciune în care ne închinăm, neglijând faptul că Dumnezeu așteaptă să avem o inimă sfântă, o casă în care El să locuiască. Sfințenia personală prin Cristos ne califică înaintea lui Dumnezeu, nu sfințenia Casei Domnului în care ne închinăm. “Moabul va fi dat de rușine cu Chemoș, cum a fost dată de rușine casa lui Israel cu Betel, în care își punea încrederea.” (vers. 13)

Să ne rugăm pentru responsabilitate în slujire și pentru o inimă curată în care Dumnezeu să locuiască.

We remember that the six chapters, 46-51, contain messages of judgment and punishment for the nations surrounding Israel. Chapter 48 presents the message of God's wrath against Moab, a country located east of the Dead Sea.

The land of Moab traces its origins to Moab, one of the two sons of Lot, Moab and Ammon. They were born from an incestuous relationship between Lot and his two daughters (Genesis 19:37-38).
This explains the relationship between the two neighboring countries, Moab and Ammon.

The Moabites were established enemies of the Israelites, and various conflicts arose between the two nations. Balak was the king of Moab who tried in every way to curse and destroy Israel.
Balaam, whom Balak hired to curse the Israelites, was stopped by God (Numbers 22).

This chapter highlights two verses that point out two risks the Moabites took at that time. These risks remain two great temptations even today:

1.     The risk of serving God carelessly, without paying attention to all the details He requires. The sacrifices we make for God do not justify serving Him according to our own understanding and desires. “Cursed is the one who is lax in doing the Lord’s work! Cursed is the one who keeps their sword from bloodshed!” (v. 10)

2.     The risk of placing our trust in the house of worship where we pray, while neglecting the fact that God expects us to have a holy heart—a dwelling place for Him. Personal holiness through Christ qualifies us before God, not the holiness of the Lord’s house where we worship. “Moab will be disgraced by Chemosh, as Israel was disgraced by Bethel, in which they trusted.” (v. 13)

Let us pray for responsibility in serving and for a pure heart where God can dwell.
