Marți, 12 martie 2024, Estera 6:1-14 – Haman onorează pe Mardoheu

Haman a avut un somn profund și liniștit și s-a trezit dimineață bucuros. În această zi urma să fie spânzurat Mardoheu. Își imagina cum va pendula în ștreang! S-a grăbit să meargă la palat, să vorbească cu regele și să rezolve pentru totdeauna problema aceasta care-i fura bucuria.

Cum mai putea Dumnezeu să-l scape pe Mardoheu și neamul evreiesc împrăștiat în imperiul Persan? Haman era deja în curtea palatului, iar în câteva clipe urma să intre înaintea regelui.

Lucrul pe care nu l-a știut Haman este că Dumnezeu i-a luat somnul regelui și monarhul n-a putut dormit toată noaptea. Biblia spune că ,,împăratul n-a putut să doarmă” (v. 1). Când și-a dat seama că nu poate dormi, a cerut slujitorilor să-i aducă Cartea Cronicilor și a citit istoria celor 12 ani de când el era rege în Persia. Era o istorie plină de foarte multe evenimente și nume.

Era mijlocul nopții. Regele citea, iar Haman dormea dus. Peste tot în imperiu, neamul evreiesc plângea și se ruga, cerând îndurarea lui Dumnezeu. Regele nu putea să doarmă fiindcă Dumnezeu îi spusese somnului să plece de la el.  

A ajuns cu citirea la pagina pe care secretarul scrisese cum păzitorii pragului, Bigtan și Teres, au vrut să-l asasineze. Cei care păzeau intrarea în dormitorul regelui plănuiseră să-l omoare. La vremea aceea, Mardoheu a auzit întâmplător despre intenția lor și i-a dat de știre împăratului (2:21-23). Cei doi fameni păzitori au fost pedepsiți cu moartea.

Trecuseră aproximativ cinci ani de la acel incident și regele uitase cu totul. Ahașveroș i-a chemat pe slujitorii săi și i-a întrebat cum a fost răsplătit Mardoheu pentru că i-a salvat viața. Ei au răspuns sec: nu a fost răsplătit în nici un fel. Scăpase sistemului de arhivă al împăratului să-l cinstească pe bravul binefăcător.

Cu cinci ani înainte, când nu exista nici o amenințare pentru Mardoheu și pentru neamul lui, Dumnezeu organizase scăparea lor. Când ei plângeau și se rugau să-i scape Dumnezeu, scăparea era pregătită deja de cinci ani. Dacă ei ar fi știut nu ar mai fi plâns, nu ar mai fi postit, nu s-ar fi rugat. Dar nu știau și se jeleau, cerând milă Domnului. De cinci ani planul salvării aștepta momentul să fie activat.

În clipa aceea împăratul a aflat că a sosit Haman și l-a chemat prin slujitorii săi. Înainte să poată lua cuvântul, regele l-a întrebat: cum ar fi cel mai bine să-l cinstesc pe cel pe care vreau să-l cinstesc?

Era normal, în contextul acelei dimineți, ca Haman să își asume că împăratul se refera la el. Profitând de oportunitatea vieții lui, Haman a spus: să fie îmbrăcat cu haina împăratului, să fie plimbat prin cetate pe calul împăratului și cineva să strige: Așa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să-l cinstească. Împăratul i-a răspuns lui Haman: cheamă-l pe Mardoheu și fă cu el exact așa cum ai spus.

Cu sufletul amărât, încercând un sentiment de rușine amestecat cu mânie aproape incontrolabil, Haman l-a plimbat toată ziua prin cetate pe Mardoheu, strigând: așa se face omului pe care regele vrea să-l cinstească.

Când s-a înserat, a plecat acasă. Nici nu a ajuns bine, că slujitorii regelui au venit după el să-l ducă la cel de-al doilea banchet organizat de împărăteasa Estera.

Ce Dumnezeu credincios! Ce Dumnezeu suveran! Ce om nu ar vrea să aibă un astfel de Dumnezeu?

De astăzi înainte, când te vei ruga, să te gândești că răspunsul la rugăciune este deja pregătit de cinci ani și Dumnezeu acum doar îl va activa. Să ne oprim înaintea Domnului și, plini de uimire și reverență, să ne rugăm, închinându-ne înaintea Lui. Lăsați emoția recunoștinței și bucuriei să vă inunde sufletul, să alunge necredința și îndoiala. Lăsați ca sufletele noastre să fie stăpânite pe deplin de siguranța rugăciunilor ascultate de Dumnezeul PreaÎnalt.

Tuesday, March 12, 2024: Esther 6:1-14 – Haman Honors Mordecai

Haman had a deep and peaceful sleep and woke up joyful in the morning. This was the day Mordecai was to be hanged. He imagined him swinging on the gallows! He hurried to go to the palace, to speak with the king and to solve this problem that was stealing his joy, once and for all.

How could God still save Mordecai and the scattered Jewish people throughout the Persian empire? Haman was already in the palace courtyard, and in a few moments, he would enter to meet with the king. What Haman did not know was that God had taken away the king's sleep, and the monarch could not sleep all night. The Bible says, “the king could not sleep” (v. 1). Realizing he could not sleep, he asked his servants to bring the Book of Chronicles and read the history of the 12 years since he had been king in Persia. It was a history full of many events and names.

It was the middle of the night. The king was reading, and Haman was sound asleep. Throughout the empire, the Jewish people were weeping and praying, asking for God's mercy. The king could not sleep because God had told sleep to leave him.

He reached the page where the scribe had written about how the threshold guards, Bigthan and Teresh, had wanted to assassinate him. Those guarding the entrance to the king's bedroom had planned to kill him. At that time, Mordecai had accidentally heard about their intention and informed the king (2:21-23). The two guards were punished with death.

About five years had passed since that incident, and the king had completely forgotten. Ahasuerus called his servants and asked how Mordecai had been rewarded for saving his life. They dryly answered: not at all. It had slipped through the emperor's archival system to honor the brave benefactor.

Five years earlier, when there was no threat to Mordecai and his people, God had arranged their escape. When they were weeping and praying for God to save them, the escape had already been prepared for five years. If they had known, they would not have wept, fasted, or prayed. But they did not know and were lamenting, asking for the Lord's mercy. For five years, the plan of salvation was waiting for the moment to be activated.

At that moment, the king found out that Haman had arrived and called him through his servants. Before he could speak, the king asked him: what would be the best way to honor someone I wish to honor?

It was natural, in the context of that morning, for Haman to assume the king was referring to him. Seizing the opportunity of his life, Haman said: let him be dressed in the king's robe, let him be paraded through the city on the king's horse, and let someone proclaim: This is what is done for the man whom the king wishes to honor. The king responded to Haman: call Mordecai and do exactly as you have said.

With a bitter soul, trying a feeling of shame mixed with almost uncontrollable anger, Haman paraded Mordecai all day through the city, proclaiming: this is what is done for the man the king wishes to honor.

When evening came, he went home. He had not settled in yet, when the king's servants came after him to take him to the second banquet organized by Queen Esther.

What a faithful God! What a sovereign God! Who would not want to have such a God?

From today onwards, when you pray, think that the answer to prayer has already been prepared for five years and God is now just going to activate it. Let us stop before the Lord and, full of awe and reverence, pray, bowing down before Him. Let the emotion of gratitude and joy flood our souls, dispelling disbelief and doubt. Let our souls be fully possessed by the assurance of prayers heard by the Most High God.
