Sâmbătă, 12 august 2023, Judecători 11:1-12:7 – Iefta, judecător în Israel

Iefta din Galaad a fost un om puternic și curajos. El a fost fiul unei prostituate și toată viața a trebuit să suporte consecințele acestui fapt. Starea lui amintește de cea a lui Naaman: „Dar omul acesta tare și viteaz era lepros” (2 Împărați 5:1). Cu toate acestea, „Dumnezeu a ales lucrurile josnice ale lumii și lucrurile disprețuite, ba încă lucrurile care nu sunt, ca să nimicească pe cele ce sunt; pentru ca nimeni să nu se laude înaintea lui Dumnezeu” (1 Corinteni 1:28-29).

Din cauza condiției lui, Iefta a fost alungat de acasă de proprii săi frați, iar împrejurările nașterii sale le-au servit ca pretext: „Tu nu vei avea moștenire în casa tatălui nostru, căci ești fiul unei alte femei” (Judecători 11:2). Din cauza acestei adversități, Iefta a fugit în țara Tob, la granița cu Siria.

Amoniții au declarat război Israelului și bătrânii cetății „s-au dus să-l caute pe Iefta în ţara Tob” (4-6). Această solicitare vorbea despre reputația lui, deși condiția lui socială era una defavorizată.Prin contrast cu Ghedeon care fusese chemat direct de Dumnezeu, Iefta, în prima fază, a fost chemat de oameni. Dumnezeu a confirmat alegerea lui prin faptul că a pus Duhul Său peste el (v. 10-11).

Iefta a fost singurul judecător care a încercat să negocieze pașnic cu inamicul, în perspectiva  restaurării păcii, în loc să recurgă la arme (Judecători 11:12 ). De asemenea, Iefta este unul dintre cei patru judecători peste care a coborât Duhului lui Dumnezeu, alături de Otniel, Ghedeon și Samson. Încă un lucru remarcabil este faptul că dintre toți judecători, Iefta este cel mai devotat pentru Domnul. El recunoaște că nu este decât un instrument în mâna Creatorului și duce la îndeplinire teribila juruință făcută (Judecători 11:30-31, 34-35). După victoria asupra amoriților, Iefta a fost judecător în Israel zece ani până la moartea sa.

Urmează să ne rugăm și vom începe prin a-I mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru aceste modele remarcabile care ne inspiră și ne încurajează. Apoi vom continua rugăciunea cerând de la Dumnezeu puterea de a rămâne în picioare în cele mai grele momente ale vieții personale, de familie și/sau de slujire. Maturitatea vieții unui om nu se vede în liniștea vieții, ci în zbuciumul acesteia.

Saturday, August 12, 2023: Judges 11:1-12:7 – Jephthah, Judge in Israel

Jephthah from Gilead was a strong and brave man. He was the son of a prostitute and had to bear the consequences of this fact throughout his life. His condition reminds us of Naaman's: “But this strong and brave man was a leper” (2 Kings 5:1). However, ” God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him” (1 Corinthians 1:28-29).

Due to his condition, Jephthah was driven from his home by his own brothers, and the circumstances of his birth served as a pretext: “You shall not have an inheritance in our father's house, for you are the son of another woman” (Judges 11:2). Due to this adversity, Jephthah fled to the land of Tob, at the border with Syria.

The Ammonites declared war on Israel, and the city elders “went to fetch Jephthah from the land of Tob” (4-6). This request spoke of his reputation, although his social condition was disadvantageous. In contrast to Gideon, who was directly called by God, Jephthah was initially called by men. God confirmed this choice by putting His Spirit upon him (v. 10-11).

Jephthah was the only judge who tried to negotiate peacefully with the enemy, looking to restore peace, instead of resorting to arms (Judges 11:12). Also, Jephthah is one of the four judges on whom the Spirit of God descended, along with Othniel, Gideon, and Samson. Another remarkable thing is that among all the judges, Jephthah was the most devoted to the Lord. He recognized that he was merely an instrument in the Creator's hand and fulfilled the terrible oath he made (Judges 11:30-31, 34-35). After victory over the Amorites, Jephthah was a judge in Israel for ten years until his death.

It's time for us to pray and we will begin by thanking God for these remarkable models that inspire and encourage us. Then we will continue our prayer asking God for the strength to stand firm in the toughest moments of our personal, family and/or ministry life. The maturity of a man's life is not seen in the quietness of his life, but in its turmoil.
