Duminică, 11 iunie 2023, Deuteronom 7:1-33 – Distrugerea Cananiților și a idolilor lor

Dumnezeu a poruncit copiilor lui Israel să distrugă cele șapte popoare care locuiau în Canaan: pe hitiți, pe ghirgasiți, pe amoriți, pe cananiți, pe fereziți, pe heviți și pe iebusiți. Această poruncă poate părea incompatibilă cu caracterul iubitor al lui Dumnezeu.

În primul rând, acești oameni trebuiau să moară pentru păcatele lor (9:4-5). Apoi, studierea religiei și literaturii lor arată că aveau cea mai depravată cultură de pe pământ la vremea aceea. Apoi, ei nu au acceptat să renunțe la ura față de Dumnezeu (7:10). Când ninivenii s-au pocăit la predica lui Iona, Dumnezeu i-a iertat, însă aceștia nu s-au căit de răul pe care l-au făcut. Cananiții au manifestat o influență idolatră și imorală. Dumnezeu i-a ales pe evrei că prin ei să sfințească omenirea. Israel trebuia să înțeleagă două lucruri despre caracterul lui Dumnezeu:

1)    Dumnezeu este singurul Domn. El este în stare să ridice și să coboare, în cer și pe pământ are toată autoritatea.

2)    Domnul este un Dumnezeu credincios. Dumnezeu este credincios legământului pe care l-a făcut cu oamenii. Supunerea și ascultarea evreilor de Dumnezeu le va aduce protecție și binecuvântare peste ei și peste tot ce este al lor.

Este timpul rugăciunii. Să mulțumim lui Dumnezeu pentru că este credincios promisiunilor făcute. Apoi să cerem de la Dumnezeu o atitudine de ascultare și supunere. În felul acesta, prezența și binecuvântarea Domnului va rămâne zilnic pentru casele noastre.

Sunday, June 11, 2023: Deuteronomy 7:1-33 – The Destruction of the Canaanites and Their Idols

God commanded the children of Israel to destroy the seven nations that lived in Canaan: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. This command might seem incompatible with God's loving character.

Firstly, these people had to die for their sins (9:4-5). Moreover, studying their religion and literature reveals that they had the most depraved culture on earth at that time. They also did not agree to renounce their hatred of God (7:10). When the Ninevites repented at Jonah's preaching, God forgave them; but these 7 nations did not repent of the evil they had done. The Canaanites exhibited an idolatrous and immoral influence. God chose the Jews so that through them, He could sanctify humanity. Israel had to understand two things about God's character:

1)    God is the only Lord. He has the power to lift up and bring down; in heaven and on earth, He has all authority.

2)    The Lord is a faithful God. God is faithful to the covenant He made with people. The Jews' obedience and submission to God would bring them protection and blessings over them and all that is theirs.

It's time for prayer. Let us thank God because He is faithful to the promises made. Then let us ask God for an attitude of obedience and submission. In this way, the presence and blessing of the Lord will remain daily in our homes.
