Duminică, 10 septembrie 2023: 1 Samuel 14:1-52 – Vitejia lui Ionatan

Regele Saul, însoțit de 600 de soldați, și-au așezat tabăra lângă Ghibea. În acest timp, Ionatan și purtătorul armelor lui au făcut o incursiune în tabăra filisteană și au ucis 20 de soldați. Saul a poruncit soldaților să postească până când îi vor învinge pe filisteni (vers. 28). După ce i-au învins pe filisteni, soldații, fiind epuizați, au tăiat animale și le-au mâncat fără să scoată sângele din ele (vers. 32). Saul a auzit și s-a alarmat, a construit un altar și a adus o jertfă de ispășire pentru ei (vers. 45; Levitic17:10-14).

Dorind să aibă o victorie deplină asupra filistenilor, Saul a zidit un altar și L-a întrebat pe Domnul cu privire la intenția lui, însă nu a primit nici un răspuns. Asumându-și că cineva a păcătuit, a aflat că fiul său Ionatan a încălcat din neștiință jurământul, mâncând miere în perioada postului. Saul a avut intenția să-l execute, însă generalii lui l-au scos pe Ionatan din mâinile lui (vers. 45).

Personalitatea regelui Saul este absolut atipică și surprinde prin contrastele ei. La Ghilgal își permite să aducă jertfă ca un preot și nu se simte vinovat, însă se alarmează că soldații au mâncat carnea cu sânge cu tot și aduce jertfe de ispășire pentru ei. Mai mult, pune armata la post, căutând ajutorul Domnului.

Teoria recompensei folosită de mulți credincioși în prezent probabil se trage de pe vremea lui Saul. El credea că lucrurile rele pe care le-a făcut vor fi iertate datorită lucrurilor bune pe care s-a străduit să le facă. Pe lângă toate aceste lucruri, Saul a fost un om impulsiv, imprevizibil și invidios.

Urmând să ne rugăm, vrem să mulțumim Domnului pentru că ne oferă șansă peste șansă ca să ne corectăm, sfințindu-ne viața. Acest mare har ne oferă posibilitatea să învățăm din propriile greșeli. Continuăm rugăciunea și vom cere Domnului discernământ pentru a face diferența între neprihănire și păcat. De asemenea, să cerem Domnului lumină cu privire la limitele chemării și slujirii noastre și puterea de a fugi de invidie. Trebuie să acceptăm că există oameni în jurul nostru mai buni, mai calificați, mai eficienți, mai relevanți decât noi. Cu umilință trebuie să le permitem acestor oameni să fie mai buni decât noi, după cum și noi putem fi mai buni decât alții. Să cerem Domnului puterea de a nu ne simți în competiție cu nimeni, bucurându-ne de chemarea și succesul slujirii fiecărui mădular al trupului lui Cristos.

Sunday, September 10, 2023: 1 Samuel 14:1-52 – Jonathan’s Bravery

King Saul, accompanied by 600 soldiers, set up camp near Gibeah. During this time, Jonathan and his armor-bearer raided the Philistine camp and killed 20 soldiers. Saul ordered the soldiers to fast until they defeated the Philistines (verse 28). After defeating the Philistines, the exhausted soldiers slaughtered animals and ate them without draining the blood (verse 32). When Saul heard of this, he was alarmed, built an altar, and offered an atonement sacrifice for them (verse 45; Leviticus 17:10-14).

Wanting a complete victory over the Philistines, Saul built an altar and inquired of the Lord about His intention, but he received no answer. Assuming someone had sinned, he learned that his son Jonathan unknowingly broke the oath by eating honey during the fasting period. Saul intended to execute him, but his generals saved Jonathan from his hands (verse 45).

King Saul's personality is entirely atypical and stands out for its contrasts. At Gilgal, he took it upon himself to offer a sacrifice as a priest and felt no guilt, but he was alarmed that the soldiers ate meat with blood and offered atonement sacrifices for them. Moreover, he had the army fast, seeking the Lord's help.

The reward theory, which many believers use today, probably dates back to Saul's time. He believed that the wrongs he committed would be forgiven because of the good deeds he tried to do. Alongside all this, Saul was impulsive, unpredictable, and envious.

As we are about to pray, we want to thank the Lord for giving us chance after chance to correct ourselves, sanctifying our lives. This great grace provides us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. We continue in prayer and will ask the Lord for discernment to distinguish between righteousness and sin. Let us also ask the Lord for insight into the boundaries of our calling and service and the strength to flee from envy. We must accept that there are people around us who are better, more qualified, more efficient, and more relevant than us. With humility, we should allow these individuals to excel beyond us, just as we might excel beyond others. Let us ask the Lord for the strength not to feel in competition with anyone, rejoicing in the calling and success of each member of the body of Christ.
