Psalmul 44 descrie o situație dramatică în care a ajuns poporul lui Dumnezeu în acel moment al istoriei. Cercetătorii presupun că poate fi vorba despre războiul cu edomiții (2 Samuel 8:13-14) sau invazia asiriană (2 Regi 18-19).

Națiunea a ajuns într-o stare avansată de lamentare, demoralizare și disperare. Evaluarea lor sumbră îi făcea să vadă doar răul din lumea în care trăiau. Solomon avertizează asupra acestui flagel psiho-social: „Nu zice: „Cum se face ca zilele de mai dinainte erau mai bune decat acestea?” Căci nu din înțelepciune întrebi așa.” (Eclesiastul 7:10)

Oamenii au tendința să idealizeze trecutul în care, de fapt, ei nu au trăit. Îl cunosc din povestirile eroice și subiective ale bunicilor. Cunosc doar o parte a adevărului și, în felul acesta, construiesc un argument ireal. În timp ce idealizează trecutul, ei sunt nemulțumiți de prezent. Ceea ce este ciudat este faptul că acest prezent care îi nemulțumește pe ei va fi idealizat de urmașii lor.

Dacă se merită să luptăm pentru ceva, se merită să luptăm pentru adevărul din mintea noastră. Mintea procesează doar realitățile pe care le punem în ea. De aceea ne vom disciplina să privim la partea plină a paharului. Paharul devine gol doar atunci când omul moare. Oricât de grea ar fi o parte a vieții, este totuși ceva în pahar. Gândind în felul acesta, nu vom trăi nici în trecut, nici în viitor, ci doar în singurul prezent pe care îl avem astăzi.

În consecință, cel mai bun timp al istoriei este timpul în care trăim noi. Cea mai bună zi din viața noastră este astăzi. Nu vrem să ne irosim singura viață pe care o avem cu gândul la o viață pe care nu o putem avea. Refuzăm să-l vindem pe astăzi pentru mâine. Mâine nu există. Mâine devine astăzi atunci cand îl avem.

Să nu trăim dezamăgiți și amărâți astăzi fără să facem ce putem pentru a schimba situația cu speranța deșartă că mâine va fi mai bine. Cine va produce binele de mâine să-l producă astăzi. Mâine s-ar putea să nu mai fim în lumea aceasta.

Să ne rugăm Domnului cu o stare de mulțumire, de satisfacție și bucurie. Să acceptăm faptul că singurele persoane pe care le putem schimba suntem doar noi. Dacă nu am reușit în viața aceasta să schimbăm lumea în care trăim, vrem să ne schimbăm pe noi în timp ce trăim în această lume neschimbată. Alegem să fim fericiți, alegem să trăim bucuroși, alegem să privim la partea plină a paharului. Dumnezeu nu va îngădui niciodată să fie gol, decât atunci cand ne va chema acasă.

Psalm 44 describes the dramatic situation that God's people found themselves in at that moment in history. Researchers suppose it could be about the war with the Edomites (2 Samuel 8:13-14) or the Assyrian invasion (2 Kings 18-19).

The nation had reached a state of advanced lamentation, demoralization, and despair. Their grim assessment made them see only the evil in the world they lived in. Solomon warns about this psycho-social plague: “Do not say, 'Why were the old days better than these?' For it is not wise to ask such questions.” (Ecclesiastes 7:10)

People have a tendency to idealize the past, in which they did not actually live. They know of it from the heroic and subjective stories of their grandparents. They know only a part of the truth and, in this way, construct an unreal argument. While idealizing the past, they are dissatisfied with the present. What is strange is that this present, which dissatisfies them, will be idealized by their descendants.

If there is something that is worth fighting for, it is worth fighting for the truth in our minds. The mind processes only the realities we put into it. Therefore, we will discipline ourselves to look at the full part of the glass. The glass becomes empty only when a person dies. No matter how hard a part of life is, there is still something in the glass. Thinking this way, we will not live in the past or the future, but only in the only present we have today.

As a result, the best time in history is the time in which we live. The best day of our life is today. We do not want to waste the only life we have thinking about a life we cannot have. We refuse to sell today for tomorrow. Tomorrow does not exist. Tomorrow becomes today when we have it.

Let us not live disappointed and bitter today without doing what we can to change the situation with the vain hope that tomorrow will be better. Whoever will produce the good of tomorrow should produce it today. Tomorrow we might not be in this world anymore.

Let us pray to the Lord with a state of thankfulness, satisfaction, and joy. Let us accept the fact that the only people we can change are ourselves. If we have not succeeded in this life to change the world we live in, we want to change ourselves while living in this unchanged world. We choose to be happy, we choose to live joyfully, we choose to look at the full part of the glass. God will never allow it to be empty until He calls us home.
