Luni, 10 iulie 2023, Iosua 2:1-24 – Spionii sunt trimiși la Ierihon

Poporul se afla în fața Țării Promise, însă avea de trecut două obstacole: Raul Iordan și Cetatea Ierihon. Iosua, conducătorul poporului, fiind unul dintre cei 12 spioni de la Cadea Barnea (Numeri 13-14), avea experiența răzvrătirii poporului în urma unui raport negativ. Din acest motiv, Iosua a trimis doi agenți secreți în Ierihon și aceștia au ajuns să fie cazați în casa lui Rahav, o femeie imorală.

Autoritățile orașului au aflat de prezența celor doi străini și au trimis soldați la Rahav să-i aresteze. Ea i-a ascuns pe cei doi spioni și i-a mințit pe soldați că străinii au plecat înainte de căderea nopții.

În situația aceasta a fost permisă minciuna lui Rahav? Nu, minciuna ei nu a fost aprobată, a fost doar consemnată. Biblia explică faptul că a fost aprobată doar credința și faptele credinței ei (Evrei 11:31).

Rahav le-a mărturisit spionilor că moralul armatei cetății Ierihonului era la pământ și soldații erau îngroziți de Dumnezeu evreilor (v. 11, 24). Mai mult de-atât, ea și-a mărturisit credința în Dumnezeul Israelului și a încheiat un pact cu privire la protecția familiei. Spionii au acceptat pactul sub condiția ca ea să marcheze casa prin prezența unei frânghii colorate la fereastră. De asemenea, trebuia ca membrii familiei ei să stea în casă.

Evadarea celor doi spioni ar fi fost imposibilă pe poarta cetății dacă Rahav nu i-ar coborât pe zid. Profitând de întunericul nopții, s-au furișat, au trecut Iordanul și au ajuns cu bine în tabăra lui Israel. Raportul lor către Iosua a fost pozitiv și concis: ,,Cu adevărat, Domnul a dat toată țara în mâinile noastre și toți locuitorii țării tremură înaintea noastră”. S-a întâmplat exact cum a spus Dumnezeu că se va întâmpla (Deuteronom 2:25).

Începem rugăciunea de astăzi mulțumindu-I lui Dumnezeu pentru planurile Sale care întrec orice pricepere omenească. Apoi ne vom ruga lui Dumnezeu să ne ajute să ne încredem în El în absolut orice situație.

Monday, July 10, 2023: Joshua 2:1-24 – The Spies are Sent to Jericho

The people were standing in front of the Promised Land, but they had two obstacles to overcome: the Jordan River and the city of Jericho. Joshua, the leader of the people, was one of the twelve spies sent from Kadesh Barnea (Numbers 13-14) and had experienced the rebellion of the people following a negative report. For this reason, Joshua sent two secret agents to Jericho, and they ended up staying at the house of Rahab, an immoral woman.

The city authorities discovered the presence of the two foreigners and sent soldiers to Rahab's house to arrest them. She hid the two spies and lied to the soldiers, telling them that the foreigners had left before nightfall.

Was Rahab's lie permissible in this situation? No, her lie was not approved; it was merely recorded. The Bible explains that only her faith and the actions that resulted from her faith were approved (Hebrews 11:31).

Rahab confessed to the spies that the morale of the army of Jericho was low, and the soldiers were terrified of the God of the Israelites (verse 11, 24). Furthermore, she professed her faith in the God of Israel and made a pact regarding the protection of her family. The spies accepted the pact on the condition that she marked her house with a colored cord at the window. Additionally, her family members had to stay inside the house.

The escape of the two spies would have been impossible through the city gate if Rahab hadn't lowered them down from the wall. Taking advantage of the darkness of the night, they sneaked out, crossed the Jordan, and safely reached the camp of Israel. Their report to Joshua was positive and concise: “Truly, the Lord has given all the land into our hands, and all the inhabitants of the land are melting away before us.” It happened exactly as God had said it would (Deuteronomy 2:25).

We begin today's prayer by thanking God for His plans that surpass all human understanding. Then, we will pray to God to help us completely trust Him in every situation.
