Vineri, 1 martie 2024, Neemia 8:1-18 – Citirea Legii

Când Neemia a ajuns la Ierusalim (445 î. Cr.), Ezra era deja acolo de 13-14 ani. Contribuția lor ca administrator și învățător a fost esențială în realizarea identității naționale a poporului întors din robia babiloniană și în reconstruirea zidului și porților cetății.

Luna a șaptea, tisri, corespunde celei de-a doua jumătăți a lunii septembrie și luna octombrie din calendarul nostru. În această lună începea anul nou civil și se celebrau Sărbătoarea Corturilor și Yom Kippur.

În luna a șaptea, poporul s-a adunat din toate cetățile pe un platou deschis în fața Porții Apelor. Poarta Apelor era aproape de pârâul Ghihon și permitea accesul la sursa de apă. Cărturarul Ezra, care era și preot, venise la Ierusalim în calitate de învățător (7:6, 11-12, 21). El le-a vorbit de pe o platformă mai înaltă ,,celor în stare să înțeleagă” (v. 2-3). Ascultarea Cuvântului a produs reacții duhovnicești:

– ,,tot poporul a fost cu luare aminte” (v. 3). Acolo erau prezenți aproximativ 30.000-40.000 de oameni (7:66-67).

– ,,13 bărbați (probabil leviți sau preoți) stăteau lângă el” (v. 7).

– ,,tot poporul s-a ridicat în picioare” (v. 5).

– ,,tot poporul a răspuns ridicând mâinile: Amin!, Amin!” (v. 6a).

– ,,și s-au plecat și s-au închinat înaintea Domnului cu fața la pământ” (v. 6b).  

– Leviții mergeau printre oameni și-i lămureau pe toți cei din jur cu privire la Lege (v. 7).

La sfârșitul zilei, Ezra și Neemia i-au invitat să meargă acasă, să mănânce, să sărbătorească și să se bucure (v. 10-11). Atitudinea poporului a fost de-a dreptul extraordinară: ,,au trimis câte o parte și altora” (v. 12). Această atitudine este de așteptat în urma ascultării Evangheliei lui Dumnezeu.

A doua zi au revenit să continue să asculte citirea și interpretarea Legii (v. 13). Această pasiune a fost răsplătită de Dumnezeu cu înțelegerea că în sărbătoarea lunii a șaptea, ei trebuiau să locuiască în corturi (v. 14). Șapte zile cât a ținut sărbătoarea s-au închinat înaintea Domnului, au ascultat citirea Legii și s-au bucurat (v. 16-18).

Lecția de viață din acest pasaj este că în Biblie există putere, puterea lui Dumnezeu. Puterea această intra în sufletul omului și se manifestă în el – în el pentru el și în el pentru alții. Este un paradox faptul că mulți oameni nu vor citească Biblia, dar vor să aibă liniște sufletească, speranță, pace și bucurie. Toate acestea sunt doar la un pas, ascunse în Cartea cărților. Cuvintele din această Carte au ieșit din gura lui Dumnezeu. În săptămâna creației aceste cuvinte au adus în ființa Universului cu tot ,,decorul” lui.

Ne vom ruga în această dimineață să ne angajăm să citim Biblia, să citim în culcare și-n sculare (cât putem de mult).

Friday, March 1, 2024: Nehemiah 8:1-18 – Reading of the Law

When Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem (445 BC), Ezra had already been there for 13-14 years. Their contribution as administrator and teacher was essential in establishing the national identity of the people returned from Babylonian captivity and in rebuilding the wall and gates of the city.

The seventh month, Tishrei, corresponds to the second half of September and the month of October in our calendar. In this month, the new civil year began, and the Feast of Tabernacles and Yom Kippur were celebrated.

In the seventh month, the people gathered from all the cities in an open square in front of the Water Gate. The Water Gate was near the Gihon Spring and allowed access to the water source. The scholar Ezra, who was also a priest, came to Jerusalem as a teacher (7:6, 11-12, 21). He spoke to “those who could understand” from a higher platform (v. 2-3). Listening to the Word elicited spiritual reactions:

–       “all the people paid attention” (v. 3). There were approximately 30,000-40,000 people present (7:66-67).

–       “13 men (likely Levites or priests) stood by him” (v. 7).

–       “all the people stood up” (v. 5).

–       “all the people answered by raising their hands: Amen!, Amen!” (v. 6a).

–       “and they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground” (v. 6b).

–       The Levites moved among the people, explaining the Law to all around them (v. 7).

At the end of the day, Ezra and Nehemiah invited them to go home, eat, celebrate, and rejoice (v. 10-11). The people's attitude was truly extraordinary: “they sent portions to others” (v. 12). This attitude is to be expected as it follows obedience to the Gospel of God.

The next day they returned to continue listening to the reading and interpretation of the Law (v. 13). This passion was rewarded by God with the understanding that during the festival of the seventh month, they were to dwell in booths (v. 14). For the seven days of the festival, they worshiped before the Lord, listened to the reading of the Law, and rejoiced (v. 16-18).

The life lesson from this passage is that there is power in the Bible, the power of God. This power enters the soul of a person and manifests within them – for them and for others. It's a paradox that many people will not read the Bible, but they want to have inner peace, hope, peace, and joy. All these are just a step away, hidden in the Book of books. The words from this Book came from the mouth of God. In the week of creation, these words brought into being the Universe with all its “decor.”

We will pray this morning to commit to reading the Bible, to read at bedtime and upon waking (as much as we can).
