În capitolul 40, Ezechiel descrie viziunea pe care i-a dat-o Dumnezeu despre noul Templu, simbolul închinării evreilor. Viziunea aceasta a fost interpretată de unii ca fiind un templu literal milenar, de alții ca o prefigurare simbolică a Împărăției lui Cristos.

Ezechiel a fost dus pe un munte înalt, unde a văzut un om cu o trestie de măsurat, simbolizând precizia și ordinea divină. Acest eveniment s-a petrecut cu aproximativ 25 de ani după distrugerea Ierusalimului și a Templului lui Solomon, în care timp robii evrei din Babilon își pierduseră cu totul identitatea spirituală și națională: „În al douăzeci și cincilea an al robiei noastre… mâna Domnului a fost peste mine… m-a dus acolo într-o vedenie dumnezeiască…” (vers. 1)

Revelația despre restaurarea Templului a fost pentru ei și pentru toate popoarele din jur un semn puternic al prezenței lui Dumnezeu și al intenției Sale de a restaura poporul ieșit din Avraam.

Cu acest capitol începe o nouă secțiune, capitolele 40–48 prezentând restaurarea spirituală, națională și instituțională a Israelului. Cea mai mare parte a conținutului capitolului 40 descrie în detaliu încăperile și scopul lor, componentele Templului și dimensiunile acestora (vers. 5-47). Unele încăperi erau folosite pentru înjunghierea animalelor de jertfă, altele pentru spălarea acestora. Unele camere erau dedicate pentru preoți și altele pentru leviți. Dimensiunile porților de la nord, est și sud erau identice și descrise în detaliu, simetria lor exprimând sfințenie și stabilitate. Proiectul Templului transmitea ideea de sfințenie, ordine și desăvârșire.

Acum este momentul potrivit să ne amintim că noi suntem acum „templul Duhului Sfânt” (1 Cor. 3:16). Aceasta presupune ordine, sfințenie și desăvârșire. Să ne rugăm pentru aceste caracteristici în viețile și acțiunile noastre. Să ne rugăm lui Dumnezeu să fim temple sfinte, consacrate împlinirii scopului Dumnezeului Atotputernic!

In chapter 40, Ezekiel describes the vision God gave him of the new Temple, a symbol of Jewish worship. This vision has been interpreted by some as a literal millennial temple and by others as a symbolic foreshadowing of the Kingdom of Christ.

Ezekiel was taken to a high mountain where he saw a man with a measuring rod, symbolizing divine precision and order. This event took place approximately 25 years after the destruction of Jerusalem and Solomon’s Temple, during which time the Jewish exiles in Babylon had completely lost their spiritual and national identity: “In the twenty-fifth year of our exile… the hand of the Lord was on me… he brought me there in a vision from God…” (verse 1, NIV).

The revelation about the restoration of the Temple was a powerful sign for them and for all surrounding nations of God’s presence and His intention to restore the people descended from Abraham.

This chapter marks the beginning of a new section, chapters 40–48, presenting the spiritual, national, and institutional restoration of Israel. Most of chapter 40 describes in detail the rooms and their purposes, the components of the Temple, and their dimensions (verses 5-47). Some rooms were used for the slaughtering of sacrificial animals, others for washing them. Certain chambers were dedicated to the priests, others to the Levites. The dimensions of the gates on the north, east, and south were identical and described in detail—their symmetry expressing holiness and stability. The design of the Temple conveyed the idea of holiness, order, and perfection.

Now is the right time to remember that we are now “the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 3:16, NIV). This calls for order, holiness, and perfection. Let us pray for these characteristics in our lives and actions. Let us pray to God that we may be holy temples, consecrated to fulfilling the purpose of the Almighty God!
