Joi, 1 iunie 2023, Numeri 33:1-56 – Rezumatul călătoriei din Egipt

Moise a făcut itinerariul călătoriei de la ieșirea din Egipt până la intrarea în Canaan. Poporul a pornit din Ramses, a doua zi după Paște, și prima campare a fost la Sucot (un drum de aproximativ 60 de kilometri). Apoi s-au dus la Etam și s-au întors la Pihahirot. Aici au fost prinși în capcane între egipteni, mare și pustie. Au scăpat trecând prin Marea Trestiilor și s-au oprit la Mara, în pustia Etamului (Exod 15:22). De la Mara s-au dus la Elim și apoi la Marea Roșie. Apoi au călătorit până la Pustia Sin (Exod 16 :1). După aceasta au plecat la Refidim și de acolo spre Pustia Sinai unde au stat aproape un an de zile (Exod 19:1). Acolo au primit Legea.

Au plecat și au trecut prin câteva orașe care nu pot fi identificate în zilele noastre. Apoi au trecut prin Etiot-Eber, faimosul port al golfului Aqaba (1 Regi 9:26). Au continuat drumul până la Cades, în pustia Tin (Numeri 33:36). Acesta este Cades-Barnea, actualul Ain Qedeis (Deuteronom 1:2), o distanță de aproximativ 150 de kilometri. La Cades, înainte de intrarea în Țara Promisă, a murit Maria, sora lui Moise.

Următorii 38 de ani sunt încadrați între răzvrătirea împotriva lui Moise și Aaron (Numeri 14:26-35) și poposul de la Muntele Hor (Numeri 33:37). Aici a murit Aaron, la vârsta de 123 de ani (33:38-39). Moise a murit în același an, la vârsta de 120 de ani, fiind cu trei ani mai mic decât Aaron (Deuteronom 1:3; 34:5-7). La muntele Hor au fost atacați de împăratul Aradului, însă Israelul l-a învins și a cucerit mai multe cetăți din Canaan (Numeri 21:1-3). Au continuat călătoria, au trecut prin mai multe orașe și s-au oprit la muntele Nebo/Pisga (Deuteronom 34:1).

În ultima sa cuvântare, Moise a cerut poporului să distrugă popoarele cananite dinaintea lor, să le distrugă idolii, icoanele și înălțimile unde aduceau jertfe. Apoi trebuiau să ia țara în stăpânire (Geneza 13:17; Exod 6:2-5). Pentru că nu a izgonit aceste popoare din țară, Israelul a avut necazuri și, în final, a fost alungat din Canaan (Iosua 23:13; 2 Regi 17:7-20). Această lungă călătorie demonstrează, pe de-o parte, consecința neascultării, însă, pe de cealaltă parte, pune în evidență iertarea și dragostea lui Dumnezeu.

Începem această zi cu rugăciune, mulțumind Domnului pentru că ne iubește și ne poartă de grijă, în ciuda multor slăbiciuni din viețile noastre. Apoi continuăm rugăciunea, cerând de la Dumnezeu puterea de a ne împlini cu bine călătoria către cer, în ciuda tuturor obstacolelor.

Thursday, June 1, 2023: Numbers 33:1-56 – Summary of the Journey from Egypt

Moses compiled the itinerary of the journey from the departure from Egypt to the entrance into Canaan. The people set out from Ramses the day after Passover, and their first camp was at Sukkoth (a distance of about 60 kilometers). They then went to Etham and returned to Pi Hahiroth. Here they were trapped between the Egyptians, the sea, and the wilderness. They escaped by crossing the Red Sea and stopped at Marah in the wilderness of Etham (Exodus 15:22). From Marah, they went to Elim and then to the Red Sea. They continued their journey to the Wilderness of Sin (Exodus 16:1). After this, they went to Rephidim and from there to the Sinai Wilderness, where they stayed for nearly a year (Exodus 19:1). It was there that they received the Law.

They traveled through several cities that cannot be identified today. They then passed through Eloth-Eber, the famous port of the Gulf of Aqaba (1 Kings 9:26). They continued their journey to Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin (Numbers 33:36). This is Kadesh-Barnea, present-day Ain Qedeis (Deuteronomy 1:2), a distance of about 150 kilometers. At Kadesh, before entering the Promised Land, Moses' sister Miriam died.

The next 38 years are framed between the rebellion against Moses and Aaron (Numbers 14:26-35) and the encampment at Mount Hor (Numbers 33:37). It was at Mount Hor that Aaron died at the age of 123 (33:38-39). Moses died in the same year at the age of 120, three years younger than Aaron (Deuteronomy 1:3; 34:5-7). They were attacked by the king of Arad at Mount Hor, but Israel defeated him and conquered several cities in Canaan (Numbers 21:1-3). They continued their journey, passed through several cities, and stopped at Mount Nebo/Pisgah (Deuteronomy 34:1).

In his final words, Moses urged the people to destroy the Canaanite nations before them, to destroy their idols, images, and the high places where they offered sacrifices. Then they were to take possession of the land (Genesis 13:17; Exodus 6:2-5). Because they did not drive out these nations from the land, Israel faced troubles and, ultimately, was driven out of Canaan (Joshua 23:13; 2 Kings 17:7-20). This long journey demonstrates, on one hand, the consequence of disobedience, but on the other hand, it highlights God's forgiveness and love.

We begin today with prayer, thanking the Lord for His love and care for us, despite the many weaknesses in our lives. Then we will continue our prayer, asking God for the strength to successfully complete our journey to heaven, despite all obstacles.
