Miercuri, 1 februarie 2023, Geneza 29:1-35 – Concurența dintre Rahela și Lea

Capitolele 29-32 arată cum Dumnezeu Și-a respectat promisiunea și L-a binecuvântat din abundență pe Iacov, însă arată și procesul disciplinării patriarhului. Nu uităm faptul că cele două mari promisiuni ale lui Dumnezeu sunt ,,o țară/Canaanul” și ,,sămânță/Canaanul”. Iacov se îndepărtează de Canaan mergând în Haran pentru a-și găsi acolo o mireasă.

Întâlnirea lui cu Rahela seamănă cu întâlnirea tatălui său cu Rebeca (cap. 24). Visul frumos al lui Iacov de a se căsători cu Rahela s-a transformat, prin înșelăciunea lui Laban, într-un coșmar. Iacov își înșelase tatăl și acum era înșelat de fratele mamei sale.

Cap. 29:1-31:55 acoperă 21 de ani de istorie, ani petrecuți în școala lui Laban. În noaptea nunții, după o lungă petrecere, Laban o adus-o în patul nupțial pe Lea, în loc de Rahela. Când s-au trezit dimineața, Iacov a înțeles că a fost înșelat de Laban, dar a înțeles și ce a simțit Esau cu ani în urmă când el îi furase binecuvântarea. Așa cum s-a dat el drept fratele mai mare în fața tatălui său, la fel s-a dat Lea drept sora mai mică față de el; măsură pentru măsură.

Iacov nu a iubit-o pe Lea, soția pe care nu a dorit-o, însă Dumnezeu i-a dat copii, în timp ce Rahela era sterilă. Competiția nașterii de copii nu a schimbat cu nimic sentimentele lui Iacov față de Rahela și indiferența sa față de Lea. Dragostea este un act de voință și el nu a voit s-o iubească pe Lea. Singura problemă era faptul că ,,Dumnezeu a văzut că Lea nu era iubită” (v. 31). Iacov a sperat că, întorcându-se în Canaan, Esau îl va ierta și îl va trata ca pe un frate, în timp ce el nu o iubea pe Lea și nu o trata ca pe o soție. Din acest motiv procesul disciplinării lui Iacov va continua.

În această dimineață vom mulțumi lui Dumnezeu pentru procesul disciplinării și maturizării la care ne-a expus în ultimii ani. Continuăm rugăciunea cerând de la Dumnezeu puterea de a iubi și de a împlini așteptările oamenilor din familia noastră restrânsă.

Wednesday, February 1, 2023: Genesis 29:1-35 – The Competition Between Rachel and Leah

Chapters 29-32 show how God kept His promise and richly blessed Jacob, but also shows the process of disciplining the patriarch. We do not forget that God’s two great promises are “a land/Canaan” and “seed/Canaan”. Jacob moves away from Canaan to Haran to find a bride there.

His meeting with Rachel resembles his father’s meeting with Rebekah (ch. 24). Through Laban’s deception, Jacob’s dream of marrying Rachel turned into a nightmare. Jacob had deceived his father and now he was being deceived by his mother’s brother.

Chapters 29:1-31:55 covers 21 years of history, years spent in Laban’s school. On his wedding night, after a long party, Laban brought Leah to Isaac’s wedding bed instead of Rachel. When they woke up in the morning, Jacob not only understood that he had been deceived by Laban, but also understood how Esau felt years prior when he had stolen his blessing. Just as he had pretended to be the elder brother to his father, so Leah pretended to be her younger sister to him, measure for measure.

Jacob did not love Leah; she was the wife he did not want, but God gave her children, while Rachel was barren. The competition of bearing children did nothing to change Jacob’s feelings towards Rachel and his indifference towards Leah. Love is an act of will and he didn’t want to love Leah. The problem was that “God saw that Leah was not loved” (v. 31). Jacob hoped that when he returned to Canaan, Esau would forgive him and treat him as a brother, while he did not love Leah and did not treat her as a wife. For this reason, the process of Jacob’s disciplining would continue.

This morning we will thank God for the process of disciplining and maturing that He has exposed us to in recent years. We continue the prayer asking God for the strength to love and fulfill the expectations of the people in our small family.
