Cartea Psalmii e o colecție de cântece pline de laudă la adresa lui Dumnezeu. Psalmul 33 este prin excelență un cântec de laudă închinat Domnului: ,,Neprihăniţilor, bucuraţi-vă în Domnul! Oamenilor fără prihană le şade bine cântarea de laudă. Lăudaţi pe Domnul cu harpa, lăudaţi-L cu alăuta cu zece coarde! Cântaţi-I o cântare nouă! Faceţi să răsune coardele şi glasurile voastre!” (vers. 1-3)

Atunci când devenim conștienți de cine este Dumnezeu cu adevărat și când realizăm că Cel atotputernic, infinit și sfânt a făcut și continuă să facă lucruri minunate pentru noi, singura noastră reacție posibilă este lauda, onorarea și închinarea.

Creștinii vorbesc adesea despre „lăudarea lui Dumnezeu”, iar Biblia le poruncește tuturor ființelor vii să-L laude pe Domnul (Psalm 150:6). Un cuvânt evreiesc pentru „laudă” este yadah, care înseamnă „a lăuda, a aduce mulțumire sau a mărturisi”. Un al doilea cuvânt tradus adesea cu „laudă” în Vechiul Testament este zamar, „a cânta laude”. Un al treilea cuvânt tradus cu „laudă” este halal (rădăcina cuvântului aleluia), care înseamnă „a lăuda, a cinsti sau a elogia”. Toți cei trei termeni conțin ideea de a-I mulțumi și a-L cinsti pe Dumnezeu.

Foarte probabil că acest psalm este scris de David, ca o continuare a psalmului 32, la al cărui sfârșit regele se închină și Îl laudă pe Dumnezeu pentru iertare, restaurare și protecție. Psalmistul remarcă câteva motive pentru care Dumnezeul cel Preaînalt este vrednic să fie lăudat:

1. Credincioșia lui Dumnezeu: ,,Căci Cuvântul Domnului este adevărat şi toate lucrările Lui se împlinesc cu credincioşie” (vers. 4).

2. Puterea Sa de a crea Universul: „Cerurile au fost făcute prin Cuvântul Domnului și toată oștirea lor prin suflarea gurii Lui. El îngrămădește apele mării într-un morman și pune adâncurile în cămări. Tot pământul să se teamă de Domnul! Toți locuitorii lumii să tremure înaintea Lui! Căci El zice și se face, poruncește, și ce poruncește ia ființă”  ( vers. 6-9 ).

3. Autoritatea lui Dumnezeu peste Creație: ,,Ferice de poporul al cărui Dumnezeu este Domnul! Ferice de poporul pe care Şi-l alege El de moştenire! Domnul priveşte din înălţimea cerurilor şi vede pe toţi fiii oamenilor. Din locaşul locuinţei Lui, El priveşte pe toţi locuitorii pământului. El le întocmeşte inima la toţi şi ia aminte la toate faptele lor.” (vers. 12-15)

Ultimele trei versete exprimă reacția omului în fața măreției și suveranității Creatorului: ,,Sufletul nostru nădăjduieşte în Domnul; El este Ajutorul şi Scutul nostru. Da, inima noastră îşi găseşte bucuria în El, căci avem încredere în Numele Lui cel sfânt. Doamne, fie îndurarea Ta peste noi, după cum o nădăjduim noi de la Tine” (vers. 20-22).

Și noi purtăm în suflet dorința să-L lăudăm pe Dumnezeu. Și noi avem foarte multe motive să ne închinăm Domnului prin laudele noastre.

Să ne rugăm lăudându-L, pomenindu-L, admirându-L și mulțumindu-I!

The Book of Psalms is a collection of songs full of praise to God. Psalm 33 is one of the excellent songs of praise to the Lord: “Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy” (verses 1-3).

When we become aware of who this God is and what we truly accomplish when we realize that the Omnipotent, Holy, and Righteous One has done and continues to do marvelous things for us, our only possible reaction is to praise, honor, and worship Him.

Christians often talk about “praising the Lord,” but the Bible commands all of us to praise God (Psalm 150:6). In the Old Testament, there are three words translated as “praise”: yadah, which means “to praise, to give thanks or confess”; zamar, which means “to sing praise”; and halal (the root word for hallelujah), which means “to praise, honor, or commend.” All three invite us to thank and praise God.

It is likely that this psalm, written by David, is a continuation of Psalm 32, which celebrates the joy of being forgiven and praises the Lord for His righteousness, protection, and providence. Psalm 33 offers seven reasons why the Almighty is worthy of praise:

1.              Faithfulness of the Lord: “For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does” (verse 4).

2.              Power as the Creator of the Universe: “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm” (verses 6-9).

3.              Supremacy of God’s Counsel: “The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance” (verses 10-12).

4.              God’s Omniscience: “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do” (verses 13-15).

5.              God’s Omnipotence: “No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love” (verses 16-18).

6.              God’s Providence: “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you” (verses 19-22).

We too carry in our hearts the desire to praise God. We have many reasons to worship the Lord through our praises.
