Duminică, 25 mai 2025, Osea 4:1-19

Capitolul 4 descrie, într-un limbaj foarte confruntativ și aspru, idolatria, corupția și neascultarea lui Israel, Regatul de Nord: „Dacă tu curvești, Israele, măcar Iuda să nu se facă vinovat…” (vers. 15)

În perioada aceea de decădere morală, în Israel domnea regele Ieroboam al II-lea (aproximativ 750-722 î.Cr.).

Mesajul acestui capitol este un semnal de avertizare împotriva destrăbălării în care trăia Israel, un apel la pocăință și la sfințire.

Capitolul 4 poate fi împărțit în câteva secțiuni:

1.     Judecata asupra Israelului (vers. 1-3) „Ascultați cuvântul Domnului, copiii lui Israel, căci Domnul are o judecată cu locuitorii țării, pentru că nu este adevăr, nu este îndurare, nu este cunoștință de Dumnezeu în țară.” (vers. 1) Dumnezeu acuză poporul de jurăminte strâmbe, crimă, nedreptate, minciună, furt, adulter și violență.

2.     Corupția preoților (vers. 4-10) „Poporul Meu piere din lipsă de cunoștință. Fiindcă ai lepădat cunoștința, și Eu te voi lepăda și nu-Mi vei mai fi preot. Fiindcă ai uitat Legea Dumnezeului tău, voi uita și Eu pe copiii tăi!” (vers. 6) Preoții nu mai au cunoștință despre Dumnezeu și nu mai învață poporul adevărul, oamenii pierind din lipsă de cunoștință. De trei ori Dumnezeu menționează lipsa de cunoștință (vers. 1, 6). Dumnezeu declară că preoții au uitat Legea, se hrănesc cu carnea jertfelor închinate Domnului, curvesc, consumă alcool și se închină la idoli.

3.     Idolatria și imoralitatea (vers. 11-19) „Aduc jertfe pe vârful munților, ard tămâie pe dealuri, sub stejari, plopi și terebinți, a căror umbră este plăcută. De aceea, fetele voastre curvesc și nurorile voastre sunt preacurve.” (vers. 13) Deși trăiau în imoralitate și idolatrie, evreii invocau numele Domnului în juruințele lor.

Chiar dacă Israel a abandonat legământul, s-a închinat la idoli și s-a desfrânat spiritual, Dumnezeu l-a chemat la pocăință și restaurare. Răbdarea și bunătatea lui Dumnezeu sunt greu de înțeles și fac dovada iubirii Sale supreme.

Să ne rugăm Domnului să rămânem credincioși, perseverenți și dedicați.

Sunday, May 25, 2025 – Hosea 4:1–19

Chapter 4 describes, in very confrontational and harsh language, the idolatry, corruption, and disobedience of Israel, the Northern Kingdom: “Though you commit adultery, Israel, let not Judah become guilty…” (verse 15)

During this time of moral decline, Israel was ruled by King Jeroboam II (approximately 750–722 B.C.).

The message of this chapter is a warning against the depravity in which Israel was living, a call to repentance and holiness.

Chapter 4 can be divided into several sections:

1.     Judgment on Israel (verses 1–3)
“Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: ‘There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land.’” (verse 1)
God accuses the people of false oaths, murder, injustice, lying, theft, adultery, and violence.

2.     Corruption of the priests (verses 4–10)
“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.” (verse 6)
The priests no longer have knowledge of God and no longer teach the people the truth, and the people perish for lack of knowledge. God mentions this lack of knowledge three times (verses 1, 6). He declares that the priests have forgotten the Law, feed themselves on the meat of sacrifices offered to the Lord, commit adultery, drink alcohol, and worship idols.

3.     Idolatry and immorality (verses 11–19)
“They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak, poplar and terebinth, where the shade is pleasant. Therefore your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery.” (verse 13)
Even though they lived in immorality and idolatry, the Israelites invoked the name of the Lord in their vows.

Although Israel had abandoned the covenant, bowed down to idols, and committed spiritual adultery, God called them to repentance and restoration. His patience and kindness are difficult to comprehend and are proof of His supreme love.

Let us pray to the Lord to remain faithful, persevering, and dedicated.
