Marți, 17 iunie 2025, Obadia 1:1-21

Cartea Obadia, care conține 21 de versete, este cea mai scurtă din Vechiul Testament. Cei mai mulți teologi plasează cartea în jurul anului 586 î.Hr., după distrugerea Ierusalimului de către babilonieni.

Mesajul cărții condamnă mândria Edomului și anunță judecata divină asupra acestui popor. Cartea lui Obadia este o lecție despre mândrie, trădare și dreptatea lui Dumnezeu.

Mesajul cărții poate fi împărțit în câteva secțiuni:

1.     Judecata asupra Edomului (vers. 1-9)
„Dar, chiar dacă ai locui tot atât de sus ca vulturul, chiar dacă ţi-ai aşeza cuibul între stele, tot te voi arunca jos şi de acolo, zice Domnul.” (vers. 4)
Dumnezeu anunță că Edom va fi distrus din cauza mândriei și trădării lui.

2.     Păcatele Edomului (vers. 10-14)
„Nici nu trebuia să intri pe porţile poporului Meu în ziua nenorocirii lui, nici nu trebuia să te bucuri de nenorocirea lui în ziua prăpădului lui și nu trebuia să pui mâna pe bogăţiile lui în ziua prăpădului lui!” (vers. 13)
Trădarea față de Israel este condamnată de Dumnezeu.

3.     Ziua Domnului (vers. 15-18)
„Casa lui Iacov va fi un foc și casa lui Iosif, o flacără, dar casa lui Esau va fi miriştea pe care o vor aprinde și o vor mistui, și nu va mai rămâne niciunul din casa lui Esau, căci Domnul a vorbit.” (vers. 18)
Judecata lui Dumnezeu se va manifesta asupra tuturor neamurilor.

4.     Restaurarea Israelului (vers. 19-21)
„Izbăvitorii se vor sui pe muntele Sionului ca să judece muntele lui Esau. Dar împărăția va fi a Domnului.” (vers. 21)
Poporul lui Dumnezeu va fi restaurat și va stăpâni teritoriul Edomului.

Cartea lui Obadia este o avertizare împotriva mândriei naționale, trădării și cruzimii:
„Căci mândria inimii tale te-a dus în rătăcire pe tine, care locuiești în crăpăturile stâncilor și domnești în înălțime, de aceea tu zici în tine însuți: ‘Cine mă va arunca la pământ?’” (vers. 3)

Să ne rugăm pentru smerenie, pentru un duh blând și liniștit și pentru compasiune față de oameni.

The book of Obadiah, which contains 21 verses, is the shortest book in the Old Testament. Most theologians place it around the year 586 B.C., after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians.

The message of the book condemns the pride of Edom and announces God’s divine judgment upon this nation. The book of Obadiah is a lesson about pride, betrayal, and the justice of God.

The message of the book can be divided into a few sections:

1.     Judgment upon Edom (verses 1–9)
“Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.” (verse 4)
God announces that Edom will be destroyed because of its pride and betrayal.

2.     The Sins of Edom (verses 10–14)
“You should not march through the gates of my people in the day of their disaster, nor look down on them in their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor seize their wealth in the day of their disaster.” (verse 13)
Betrayal against Israel is condemned by God.

3.     The Day of the Lord (verses 15–18)
“The house of Jacob will be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame; the house of Esau will be stubble, and they will set it on fire and consume it. There will be no survivors from the house of Esau.” The Lord has spoken. (verse 18)
The judgment of God will be carried out upon all nations.

4.     The Restoration of Israel (verses 19–21)
“Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord’s.” (verse 21)
God’s people will be restored and will take possession of Edom’s territory.

The book of Obadiah is a warning against national pride, betrayal, and cruelty:
“The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’” (verse 3)

Let us pray for humility, for a gentle and quiet spirit, and for compassion toward others.
