Miercuri, 1 martie 2023, Exodul 7:1-25 – Prima dintre cele zece urgii
Moise și Aaron merg din nou la Faraon să ceară eliberarea poporului lui Dumnezeu. Moise avea vârsta de 80 de ani, iar Aaron de 83. De obicei se remarcă vârsta unui personaj biblic înaintea unui mare eveniment.
La toate problemele și plângerile lui Moise, Dumnezeu îi răspunde spunând: ,,Eu sunt Domnul” – de trei ori în capitolul 6 (v. 2, 6, 29) și de două ori în capitolul 7 (v. 5, 17). Cel mai important este să știm cine este El! El este Domnul, este singurul Domn! Exclusivismul DOMNIEI lui Dumnezeu generează unicitate și suveranitate. Acesta este secretul încrederii noastre în El.
Deoarece Faraon nu s-a lăsat convins, Dumnezeu l-a constrâns prin cele zece urgii/plăgi/judecăți. Scopul urgiilor a fost să pună în evidență neputința lui Faraon și suveranitatea lui Dumnezeu pe care Faraon a constatat-o atunci când a spus: ,,Cine este Domnul, ca să ascult de glasul Lui, și să las pe Israel să plece? Eu nu cunosc pe Domnul și nu voi lăsa pe Israel să plece” (Exod 5:2).
Urgiile pot fi așezate în trei grupe de câte trei. Prima grupă de urgii a fost dezgustătoare: sângele, broaștele și păduchii. A doua grupă a fost dureroasă: muștele, moartea vitelor și bubele fierbinți. A treia grupă a fost amenințătoare: piatra, lăcustele și întunericul. Aceste zece urgii au fost considerate de mulți teologi drept atacuri împotriva zeităților Egiptului (12:12) – ,,Domnul” în opoziție cu ,,zeii Egiptului”.
Prima urgie este apa (Nilul) transformată în sânge. Agricultura și, în ultimă instanță, supraviețuirea țării depindeau de revărsarea periodică a apelor Nilului care sedimenta sol fertil pe toată lungimea sa de 4132 mi (6600 km). Acum, apa transformându-se în sânge, nu a mai fost potabilă și a devenit aducătoare de moarte pentru pești și pentru sol. Este un lucru îngrozitor să te lupți cu Dumnezeu!
Pentru timpul devoțional din această dimineață, vom mulțumi Domnului pentru pâine și apă, pentru belșugul de binecuvântări. Apoi, vom continua rugăciunea implorând un duh de pocăință și cercetare peste sufletele noastre. Diferit de Faraon, noi cunoaștem pe Domnul și alegem să ascultăm de glasul Lui.

Wednesday, March 1, 2023: Exodus 7:1-25 – The First of Ten Plagues
Moses and Aaron once again go to Pharaoh again to ask for the release of God’s people. Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83. The age of a biblical character is usually highlighted before a major event.
God responds to all of Moses’ problems and complaints by saying, “I am the Lord” – three times in chapter 6 (v. 2, 6, 29) and twice in chapter 7 (v. 5, 17). The most important thing is to know who He is! He is the Lord, the only Lord! The exclusivity of God’s LORDSHIP generates uniqueness and sovereignty. This is the secret of our trust in Him.
Because Pharaoh was not convinced, God forced him through the ten plagues/judgments. The purpose of the plagues was to highlight Pharaoh’s helplessness and the sovereignty of God, which Pharaoh acknowledged when he said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go” (Exodus 5:2).
The plagues can be divided into three groups of three. The first group of plagues was repulsive: blood, frogs, and lice. The second group was painful: flies, the death of cattle, and boils. The third group was threatening: hail, locusts, and darkness. Many theologians considered these ten plagues to be attacks against the gods of Egypt (12:12) – “the Lord” in opposition to “the gods of Egypt“.
The first plague was water (the Nile) turning into blood. Agriculture and ultimately the survival of the country depended on the periodic overflow of the Nile, which deposited fertile soil along its entire length of 4132 miles (6600 km). Now, the water turning into blood was no longer drinkable and became deadly for fish and soil. It is a terrifying thing to fight against God!
For today’s devotional time, we will thank the Lord for bread and water, for the abundance of blessings. Then, we will continue our prayer by imploring a spirit of repentance and examination over our souls. Unlike Pharaoh, we know the Lord and choose to obey His voice.
